What I do:

Immigration Consultation

I don’t generally take immigration cases for representation. Or at least not in the way most people do.  I am not a private attorney in that respect.

I am interested in supporting community based groups or businesses who want to design opportunities for the people they work with to have access to consultation on their immigration cases and to build power and wisdom around immigration law and policy.

If that idea inspires you, fill out the contact form below.

Writing

I do a lot of writing.

I write a newsletter— published 1-2 times a month. It’s generally about immigration policy and history and how we can think about it and engage in it. You can sign up here.

I also write columns about national immigration policy and New Mexico for Source New Mexico.

Education, Training, and Public Speaking

I love to educate groups about immigration law and policy. I believe that learning is one of the most sincere forms of activism.

I love sharing my deep understanding of the legal system and the landscape of the immigrant rights movement with people of all backgrounds and ages: elementary school classes; college students; community organizers; or really anyone who is curious.

Some examples of topics:

  • Immigration 101

  • Mechanics of Mass Deportation

  • Immigration Detention

Projects I am working on:

We are creating a community based legal workshop to help people facing deportation proceedings in immigration court. The primary goal is to create a safe resource for people to navigate their cases and to find an entry point for volunteers to participate as advocates against community defense against mass deportation.

I am helping the Immigrant Justice Campaign with the American Immgration Council mentor pro-bono lawyers from around the country who have volunteered to represent people in their asylum cases and deportation cases.
